For many years, the town was quiet and grew at a slow pace. The community was one that was comfortable. There were plenty of things to do and people knew each other by name. By 1947 the population has grown to about 12,000 people. Then it really started to be full of people due to the oil strike that occurred that year.
People came from all over for their opportunity to be a part of it. Leduc soon became the #1 oil spot in Alberta. The oil as well as the gas industry in this area has made it very prosperous. Such commodities continue to be the top sources of the economy today in this area of Alberta.
There is also an industrial park called Nisku that is a major employer in this area. They offer all types of factories and production in an effort to ensure that people have work. These products are used locally, but also shipped to destinations around the world. The Edmonton International Airport is also a location for many from Leduc to find employment.
Leduc has created its own little sub location in Canada that many people find interesting and appealing. They have their own emergency services in place including police, fire, and ambulance. They don’t have a major hospital but it isn’t too far of a commute to find several around Alberta should someone have a serious medical need.
There is one small newspaper and one local radio station in Leduc. Yet since this location isn’t far from Edmonton, they do receive all of the different newspapers and radio channels for the surrounding areas. Those residents of Leduc that have a desire to keep up with current events all over the area will have no trouble being able to do so.
The last census took place in 2010, and it records just over 23,000 people living in Leduc. While it has grown a considerable amount over the years, it still remains one of the smaller providences of Alberta Canada.
Leduc Alberta is a providence of Alberta, Canada. It is approximately 21 miles from Edmonton, and it is considered to be a part of that metropolitan area. This location was established in 1899 when a settler by the name of Robert Telford bought some land in this area close to the lake. He soon set up a little town there and became the postmaster for many years. It didn’t become an official city though until 1906.
