Adoptees search for many reasons, medical information is one that is often
cited by adoptees.
Medical information that non-adopted people take for granted is a mystery
to most adoptees or even worse the meager information that an adoptees has is often inaccurate.
If you are a adult adoptee placed in Alberta the medical information you receive from the Alberta government
is out of date and worse yet it is the information that a Social Worker determines that you are entitled to
receive.
Questions like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and arthritis are just a few that many adoptees
have no knowledge of . The filling out of the family medical history at a doctors office is an impossible task for most adoptees.
The lack of family medical information not only impacts the adoptee, it also impacts the children of an adoptee in a negative manner.
Some adoptees feel genetically alone in the world, for many adoptees the birth of their own child
is the first blood relative they meet.
In our multi-cultural society many people celebrate their ethnic roots, sometimes the information provided
as the background of the adoptee is in error.
An adoptee can never be sure that the ethnic and medical information is
correct.
